Lita Featured on European Youth Portal: Celebrating Lita’s Story

We’re proud to share that Citywise has recently been featured on the European Youth Portal, the EU’s central platform highlighting youth opportunities and impact stories across Europe.

The feature tells the story of Lita, now a staff member and previous European Solidarity Corps volunteer, who joined Citywise in 2024. It shines a light on something we see every day: the powerful impact of investing in young people and community.

A European Platform, A Local Impact

The European Youth Portal showcases stories from across the continent, highlighting the value of youth work, volunteering, and cross-cultural exchange. For Lita to be featured is a meaningful recognition of the work happening here in Jobstown and the young people at the heart of it. Lita’s experience is a powerful example of how local programmes can have far-reaching impact.

Originally from France, she came to Ireland through the European Solidarity Corps and quickly became a key part of the Citywise community, supporting after-school activities and homework clubs.

More Than Volunteering

What stands out in the feature is not just what Lita gave, but what she, and the young people she worked with, gained.

Through her time at Citywise:

  • Young people were exposed to new cultures, perspectives, and ways of learning

  • Confidence and curiosity were sparked through everyday interactions

  • A sense of connection and shared experience grew across backgrounds

This is the essence of the Citywise Way, long-term relationships, role models, and opportunities that open doors.

A Two-Way Impact

The European Youth Portal feature also highlights something we believe deeply. The impact of youth work goes both ways. Lita speaks about how the experience helped her grow in confidence, take on leadership, and step beyond her comfort zone. That mutual growth, where young people and volunteers learn from each other, is what makes programmes like this so powerful.

Recognising the Bigger Picture

This feature is not just about one story. It reflects:

  • The strength of international partnerships like the European Solidarity Corps

  • The importance of youth work in building more connected, open communities

  • The role organisations like Citywise play in creating lasting impact

Looking Ahead

As EU-supported volunteering marks 30 years, stories like Lita’s remind us what is possible when young people are given opportunities to contribute, learn, and lead. We are delighted to see Lita and Citywise represented on a European stage and even more excited to continue creating these opportunities for the young people and volunteers who come through our doors.
